Pairings by number of players

How the scoring works

Each game is to 121. A win earns 2 game points; a skunk, winning by 31 or more (the loser stuck on 90 or below), earns 3. The margin is the spread: plus for the winner, minus for the loser. A win at 121 to 100 is 2 game points and 21 spread.

Standings sort by game points, then games won, net spread, plus spread and the head-to-head game. Pairings use the circle method, so nobody meets the same opponent twice until everyone has played everyone.

Questions organizers ask

How is a cribbage tournament scored?

Under American Cribbage Congress rules a win is worth 2 game points and a skunk (winning by 31 or more) is worth 3. A loss scores nothing. Players are ranked by game points first.

What is spread in cribbage?

Spread is the winning margin: 121 minus the loser's score. The winner adds it as plus spread and the loser records it as minus spread. Net spread (plus minus minus) breaks ties between players with the same game points and wins.

How are ties broken?

In order: game points, games won, net spread, plus spread, then the head-to-head game between the tied players. If they never met or it is still tied, cut for deal and play one game.

Does a double skunk count extra?

Not in ACC scoring: any skunk is 3 game points, and the bigger margin already shows in the spread. Some home games give 4 for a double skunk; agree on it before you start.

What happens with an odd number of players?

One player has a bye each round, and over a full round robin everyone gets one bye. Byes score nothing here, so compare players who have played the same number of games, or finish the full round robin.

How many games should each player play?

A full round robin means everyone plays everyone once: 7 games for 8 players, 11 for 12. A game takes about 20 to 30 minutes, so cut the rounds to fit your day.

Scoring follows the American Cribbage Congress Official Tournament Rules (skunk definition, game points on scorecards, tiebreakers). Not affiliated with the ACC.
