Bridge movements for 3 tables
3 tables seat 6 pairs. A complete Howell with separate boards at each table doesn't exist for 3 tables, so the usual answer is a Howell where all tables share the same boards each round. A Mitchell is the other option.
Howell with shared boards, 3 tables
All 3 tables play the same 6 boards in a round, passing each board on as they finish it. Pair 6 stays N-S at table 1. 5 rounds, 30 boards, one overall winner.
Each cell is N-S v E-W. All tables play the same boards in a round and pass them along.
Mitchell, 3 tables
N-S pairs stay at their table. After each round E-W pairs move up one table and the boards move down one. Every N-S pair meets every E-W pair once. There are two winners: one N-S, one E-W. 3 rounds of 8 boards (24 in all).
N-S pairs stay put. Pair numbers are N-S v E-W.
Which one to play with 3 tables
At 3 tables most home games and small clubs play the Howell: everyone meets everyone and there is one winner. The odd-table Mitchell needs no skip, which makes it the simplest movement to direct. Pairs arriving one short? Tick "One pair short" in the movement planner and one position becomes a sit-out.
Want different boards per round, or to score the session from the travellers? Open the planner: it keeps the same movement and adds matchpoint scoring.
